SOLO EXHIBITION
In Between
New York, NY — C24 Gallery presents In Between, an exhibition of works by Fırat Neziroğlu that approach the art of weaving as a material practice — a language in which memory, emotion, identity and lived experience are recorded, preserved and passed on.
At the core of Neziroğlu’s practice lies a desire to create a universal language by synthesizing the traditional motifs and symbolic vocabulary of Anatolian kilims with his own innovative techniques. Historically, these motifs have served as semiotic tools for the complex conditions of human life, from love and protection to separation and hope.
Neziroğlu treats these textiles not as decorative forms but as repositories of lived experience.
Throughout In Between, this ancient visual lexicon intersects with the technological frameworks that shape contemporary experience and perception. The exhibition draws a subtle parallel between the woven motif and the digital image.
The titles of the works are narrative in essence, inviting viewers to discover multiple layers of interpretation within each piece. Where experiences were once encoded into fibers and patterns, they are now increasingly compressed into images, icons and screens.
Fırat Neziroğlu has worked across textile art, design, performance and education for nearly thirty years. Trained in textile and fashion design, his practice draws on his extensive research into Anatolian weaving traditions as well as his background in dance, carrying movement, gesture, rhythm and bodily awareness into the construction of his images.
He has developed a distinctive hand-weaving technique built on light, shadow and void, in which the threads function almost like the lines of a drawing and the surrounding space becomes an active element of the work.
Alongside his studio work, Neziroğlu has brought preservation and contemporary production together by researching and reviving endangered textiles, techniques and looms with weaving communities across Turkey.
His work has been exhibited internationally across Europe, Asia, the Middle East and the United States, and his wider practice spans weaving, sculpture, fashion, dance, performance, education and cultural research.
In Between, as its name suggests, is positioned somewhere between image and object, tradition and technology, inherited memory and contemporary experience.
It proposes weaving not as something belonging to the past, but as an enduring way of making experience visible.
